ICT Stuff and Games
The school benefits from a Dell power server with UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and backup NAS(Network Attached Storage) drive.
All the children have access to a laptop PC and in order to use the school computer network all children have their own login and folder space, year 5 & 6 children are also given an email address and instructed on its safe and correct use. Access to the internet at the school is via a proxy server under control of the county and this is subject to the strict filtering rules of RM SafetyNet Plus, software that manages filtering for the whole Staffordshire schools community. The use of social networking sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Bebo etc. is prevented by the safetynet. Most of the laptops have an integral webcam and microphone. Each is also equipped with Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and the free alternative Open Office. Comic Life and Crazy Talk are also on the latops and are recommended by the County, however these can be heavy on memory usage. Audacity is often used for sound processing and is also available free of charge.
A good music ripper is Audiograbber (also freeware) but for best use download also the LAME encoder recommended.
A media player worth a look is Winamp, it has been around a long time and is very popular - it is free and has a good music database facility.
VLC Media Player is also a brilliant free media player and although its interface is simpler and less sophisticated than Winamp it seems to handle any media format that is thrown at it.
